The Snow Mountain Search and Rescue Operation in Myanmar in 2014

The Blue Sky Rescue Team dispatched nearly a hundred members in four echelons to participate in this overseas search - and - rescue mission.

According to a report in The Myanmar Golden Phoenix Chinese - language Newspaper on September 12th, eight members of the "Natural Echo" mountaineering team from Yangon University in Myanmar were climbing Hkakabo Razi, the highest peak in Southeast Asia at 5,881 meters above sea level, located in Kachin State, Myanmar. Team leader Aung Min Myo and manager Wai Yan Min successfully reached the summit at 4:20 p.m. on August 31st. However, at around 5 p.m. on the same day, they lost contact with the other members of the mountaineering team.

In response to the urgent request from the Burmese side, the China - Myanmar Friendship Association and the Chinese Blue Sky Rescue Team promptly organized rescue echelons to provide aid to Myanmar. On September 13th, nine members of the Chinese Blue Sky Rescue Team arrived at Yangon Airport and then made their way to Kachin State to take part in the search and rescue operation for the missing members of the Myanmar university mountaineering team.

On September 27th, a helicopter from the Thai rescue team, which was on a mission to transport food to the mountaineering camp, went missing. The rescue team then started to search for both the missing mountaineers and the helicopter simultaneously.

Starting from October 5th, due to harsh local weather conditions, the slim chances of survival for the missing persons and those on the missing aircraft, as well as the remote location of the mountainous area and poor infrastructure, making rescue conditions extremely difficult. After careful consideration, multiple overseas rescue organizations successively withdrew down the mountain, and members of the Blue Sky Rescue Team also returned to Yangon for rest.

As of October 6, the Blue Sky Rescue Team had dispatched nearly a hundred team members in four echelons to participate in this overseas search - and - rescue mission.
