The earthquake rescue on Lombok Island, Indonesia in 2018

Eleven members of the Blue Sky Rescue Team are conducting rescue operations at the scene.

On August 5, 2018, a magnitude - 7.0 earthquake struck Lombok Island in Indonesia, leaving 436 people dead and more than 1,300 injured. The epicenter had a population density of as high as 1,000 people per square kilometer, resulting in extremely severe disaster impacts. In addition, 593 aftershocks further increased the difficulty of rescue operations. Local hospitals were severely damaged in the earthquake, posing a huge challenge to the treatment and management of a large number of injured people.


  • Eleven members of the Blue Sky Rescue Team participated in the on - site rescue, while another 83 members provided 24 - hour remote support through the coordination, translation, and the cultural and information departments.

  • Medical aid: 431 injured people were treated within four days.

  • Rescue operations: Twelve medical stations were set up. Twenty - one seriously injured patients were attended to, and one critically ill patient was transferred to Mataram City Hospital.

  • Equipment support: Four sets of aerial rescue equipment and a large amount of medical supplies were deployed.
